Company Description

Amidst industry downsizing, we are growing! We plan to double in size next year through innovation and web-native design that keeps us ahead of the curve in the HR world and attuned to the needs of our customers.
Essential Responsibilities
 
Focus on the “big picture”: Who is the end user? What is the need of the end user? When does the end user need the solution? Is there a “value add” that can expand the solution? How efficient (memory, processor time, execution speed, garbage collection, threading) is this solution? How manageable (ability to change it in the future) is this solution? How scalable is the solution? How reusable (platform independent, language independent, database independent, portable, modular) is the solution? What is the future impact (cost to upgrade, interference with other functions) of a solution? What possible future requests can be solved by the solution?
 
Provide options with pros and cons (including rough estimates for time and resources) before beginning work on a particular solution.
Provide accurate breakdowns of project components before beginning work on a particular solution.
Provide accurate and aggressive estimated times for completion before beginning work on a particular solution.
 
Develop, proofread and edit various written materials, including system overview summaries, on-line help screens and product documentation booklets.
 
Enhance existing policies and procedures to streamline business inconsistencies in order to offer superior client service.
Qualifications
4+ years experience in software development.
Degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
 
Extensive server side coding – Object Oriented programming (Specifically Java, ASP .NET), Web Services, SQL with a focus on structure, scalability, and performance.
Extensive middleware coding – XML with a focus on structure and performance.
Extensive client side coding – XML, XSLT, HTML, CSS, JavaScript with a focus on user interface.
Strong organizational skills are essential.
Management skills are a bonus.
 


Secondary Responsibilities

Research and propose improvements and alternatives for existing projects and processes.
Propose new technologies, projects and processes for future directions.

Optional set of useful knowledge areas

Hardware – Servers, Firewalls, SAN, PDA, etc.
Platforms – Windows, Mac, Linux, IE, Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Opera, etc.
Networking – SSL, SSH, Mail Servers, FTP etc.
Back Office –Clustering, Load Balancing, Distributed Applications, etc.
Alternate Technologies – Oracle, DB-2, MySQL, Postgres, Flash, Adobe, Crystal Reports, SQL Server Reporting Services etc.
Performance Monitoring and Tuning – Ability to identify bottle necks using performance tools  in Java and SQL Server environments and propose solutions for the same.
